Snafu MTB update

A while ago I blogged about the new Snafu 26″ frame, the Crenshaw. Well I recently saw this little update from the American brand over on PlusSizeBMX. These are a couple of (nearly) complete bikes using this new frame that will be on sale soon, although I doubt they will ever hit the UK, like most things! I’m loving the look of the purple Hawthorne bike!

This is the Crenshaw in Electric Gold with X-Fusion’s all-new Velour dirt-jumping fork. Of course, no bike can be called “complete” without a drivetrain and associated components, and we hope to install set of Mayweather cranks in Electric Gold, a 30-tooth Ola 7075 CNC’ed sprocket and the balance of this bike’s Mobeus- and AstroGlide-equipped brake system this afternoon. Stickers, I’ve been told, will arrive early next week.

The show sample of Crenshaw’s stablemate, the Hawthorne, is in a similar state of disassembly, but you can get the gist of its setup from this photo. The Hawthorne eschews X-Fusion’s air-sprung DJ fork in favor of our own brand-new 440 Pickle Fork. “440″ refers to our rigid MTB fork’s measurement from axle center to race seat in mm’s, and this length is perfect for replacing any sub-3″ travel front fork on any 26-inch UDJ MTB. Of course, the 440 Pickle Fork will be available the same time as the Crenshaw and Hawthorne completes early summer 2010.

Like the 20″ SNAFU Pickle Fork that inspired it, the 440 Pickle Fork featured 3D 6mm thick CNC’ed dropouts, taper-butted seamless 4130 chromoly legs and a one-piece CNC turned rifle-butted steer tube. Every new SNAFU fork will feature our new lighter weight alloy headset tension nut and 3/8″ (10mm) dropout slots.
