So nice, Jonny boy!

I have a new car now, woop! A total riding/roadtrip wagon of a VW Passat estate. Always loved them, and knew if I got any estate, it would be a Passat, so bought one last night! Just need to get rid of the Polo now then. Pics up later.

Which indicators? probably going to switch the orange ones to clear.
Yeaaa i do, Honda is daily drive. Wouldn't be able to put the mini through being driven everyday. Haven't driven it in over three weeks! Killed my radiator so just been sorting a few niggles.

My new ride, major bike room, and major comfort factor! A few dents & a couple of dodgy electrics, but can't complain for £400. Oh, and a towbar too!

thats dedication to fitment haha. can you not just use spacers/get a little ground off the back of them?

Yeah, the problem is bigger than you'd think.

The fronts did hit brake calipers. I needed like 6-7mm spacers to clear them.

SO, any normal person would have bought the spacers but I don't. I solved the problem like this:

Half way done, the center ain't machined fully yet, hence looks fatter.

Everything looked great, 'till I bought new brake pads. They push the calipers more out and it seems I'd need atleast 10mm spacers to clear them again. I've taken EVERYTHING I can from the calipers itself, and I cannot take that much from the wheels either.

Schmidt makes two kinds of center hubs to these wheels, "T2", and "T3". T2 is "flat" from the backside and T3 has an "integrated" 12mm spacer on the back. Needless to say I got the T2.

Now you think why not just replace the T2's to T3's? That would change my front setup from 8" ET18 to 8" ET3 (both 5,5" inside ring and 2,0 outside), which would be an idiotic setup. They would poke out more than my rears and they are 9 inches wide! It would end up looking like 9" wheels with "too normal looking" tires on them (Got 195/40 on every corner).

That's why I need whole new wheels; I'm thinking about 8,5" wide, ET22. (1.5" & 6,5").

Here's a photo I made for some another, car-related forum. A great tip how to lower your back "more-than-you-thought-could be-possible" on this type of suspension setup. Of course, mine ain't done like that, of course not, that would be like, illegal or something.

That way of lowering is very much how chassis'd cars can be lowered by Z'ing the chassis so that the top mounts are higher and so the chassis is nearer the ground. Its an accepted method in these circles and much more obvious than your mod is. I'm not actualy sure wether it would be classed as illegal as if done properly there is no less strength and therefore there are no safty implications that wouldnt normaly be there when you lower your car anyway.

I was going to say.. surely thats not our car! Its well grubby underneath.

I had to raise mine Sad. My coilovers where on the cheaper side of coilovers and felt so awful. I kept raising it up as it scrapes all the way along our road but in the end the springs just got to hard. I've now used my old lowering springs on the coilovers and they work a treat but there almost as low as they go and i still have a resonable arch gap Sad. Maybe i will cut a coil out the springs.

Ummm not sure Tim. Here at least it would not be acceptable. You simply just cannot touch those because "it says on the book". But, when it's done professionally, just like frame notches, etc, it looks like it came like that from the factory; Nobody will never notice.

This is a great mod actually, Only con so far I can think of is, that you can't use your regular susp cause the rear would sit a lot lower than front. You need heigth adjustable suspension. But it defenately helps them who think they can't go low enough.
for an example Lupo/Arosa/Polo owners who got coilover-sets can't set the back as low as they might want. All kits are like 80/60, 50/25, 110/65, etc. Taking the adjuster rings off helps a little but this way you can keep the adjusters in place and still go lower than the rest of.

I'm not talking about that. same principle but with chassis, and moved about 100mm+ the last car that went through the garage had 2000mm 'Z-ing'  alot of Landy's have a bit installed so that the shock doesnt come to the top of the turret giving them a healthy raise without breaking the bank, and keep[ing original shocks etc.
